13. What are the future plans for Leading by Design? <Return to table of contents The first phase of the Leading by Design research began as a pilot study, from 2000 to 2004, during the UK government funded investigation that led to Dr. Ruga being awarded a PhD. The second phase of this research overlapped the first phase by one year, and is ongoing as the field testing, operationalization, case study documentation, and dissemination of this research. This phase will include a maximum of 15 active case studies and will be ongoing into the foreseeable future. The third phase of the Leading by Design research commenced in 2007 with
a peer review and dissemination initiative. During 2007, twelve presentations
were made to professional and academic audiences in 4 countries, and three
of these presentations included case studies presented by participants. In 2008, it is anticipated that a fourth phase will be initiated as ‘prototype’ testing with a large scale healthcare provider organization. In 2009, it is anticipated that a fifth phase will be initiated to provide a series of formalized learning programs for the more broad community of professionals.
