Annette Ridenour has invested nearly 30 years in creating nationally recognized and award-winning healing environments, arts programs, wayfinding programs, interior design, and donor recognition systems for facilities. These facilities include some of the largest and best-known healthcare and educational organizations in the United States and Canada. She has extensive success in collaborations with more than 400 companies, over 200 medical facilities, and numerous major artists and architects from around the world. Annette's multidisciplinary design firm, Aesthetics, Inc., was founded in San Diego, California in 1980, and specializes in bringing a holistic approach to design of the healthcare environment. Prior to Aesthetics Annette owned and operated galleries in New York and San Diego. One of America's leading experts on various aspects of healing environment design, including wayfinding and arts in healthcare, she has been a pioneer and proponent of evidence-based, patient-focused and family-focused design principles. Annette is a sought after featured speaker at conferences and symposia by organizations such as Planetree, the Society for the Arts in Healthcare, The Center for Health Design, Healthcare Facilities Symposium, Neocon World's Trade Fair, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions. Annette has served on boards and advisory councils of several healthcare design and arts related organizations. In 2006 she was awarded the prestigious Janice Palmer Award from the Society for the Arts in Healthcare for invaluable leadership and outstanding service. Annette is a past president of that organization. She co-founded the Blair L. Sadler International Healing Arts Awards and is currently co-authoring, with Blair Sadler, a book featuring the award winners from the first several years. She is also currently authoring a book on wayfinding. Numerous articles by and about Annette and her company's design work have appeared in publications such as Healthcare Design, Healthcare Facilities Management, Healthcare Building Ideas, and Spirituality & Health. Annette was a contributing writer to the book Innovations in Healthcare Design, edited by Sara O. Marberry.
